Serving Utah's Children

The centers were originally established to serve children 17 years of age or younger who are victims of alleged sexual or physical abuse. In recent years, there has been an increased demand for services for other crimes involving children, such as domestic violence, drug endangerment, and internet exploitation.

Child Friendly Facility

The Cache Children’s Justice Center is designed to make children feel safe and comfortable while they are being interviewed regarding the alleged abuse. Audio and video equipment is used to preserve the interview for evidence and eliminate the need for multiple interviews.

Multidisciplinary Team

Professionals from several different agencies collaborate on each child’s case. This team approach increases coordination among child protection and criminal justice agencies, allowing them to track a child’s progress through the investigation, judicial process, and treatment.

Forensic Interviews

Specially trained professionals talk to the child about the alleged abuse. The goal is to minimize trauma by reducing the number of times a child must talk about his or her experiences, and to ensure that the interview is conducted in a neutral, legally sound fashion.

Medical Examinations

The Cache Children’s Justice Center has an on-site medical room staffed by medical professionals from Primary Children’s Hospital’s Safe and Healthy Families Unit. The Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurses have specialized training in diagnosing and treating physical & sexual abuse of children and teens. This service allows medical professionals to safeguard children’s health, reassure the child that their bodies are okay, and can help a child understand that the abuse was not their fault. Exams may be utilized in court for evidence purposes.

Support Services

Aftercare is a critical component of the Children’s Justice Centers process. The center provides children who’ve been abused and their families with resources to help foster healing. This includes therapy, medical care, and resources to help meet the child’s needs.

Professional Training

Multidisciplinary teams receive ongoing training to ensure that Utah’s children receive the most professional care possible.
